RIBA CPD department to spot check seminars

In a bid to further raise standards and offer constructive feedback to providers the RIBA CPD department will be conducting regular spot-checks of RIBA-approved CPD seminars from September 2010 onwards.

The new initiative is seen as a logical progression from the initial assessment to which all new providers and materials are submitted. It will help counter any criticism that "CPD occasionally strays into selling" and afford providers with an opportunity to gain direct and impartial advice on both content and technique. RIBA-assessed CPD is worth double points to architects.

'Mystery shoppers' will arrange to attend seminars booked directly with practices. The provider will be advised of the visit after the presentation has been delivered. Feedback will be given in writing and in tandem with the regular delegate feedback process.

As part of the new programme providers are henceforth required to supply advance notice and details of all seminars booked. Existing members of the RIBA CPD Providers Network wishing to log forthcoming seminar details can do so here.
