Angela Brady elected next President of the RIBA

Angela Brady elected next President of the RIBAAngela Brady of Brady Mallalieu Architects has been elected the next President of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). She will start her two-year term on 1 September 2011, when she will also become only the second – and second successive – woman to hold the office.

Brady is best known to the general public as a former presenter of Channel 4’s The Homes Show and occasional contributor to architecture debates on BBC Radio 3. She has also acted as architectural advisor to Channel 5’s Hot Property programme.

She will become the 74th RIBA President when she succeeds Ruth Reed. Upon being elected she announced that her priorities will be to, “ensure [the Institute] remains as relevant to its members as possible and to encourage all members to act as advocates for the benefits good design can bring to buildings, communities and the environment.”

Brady is a director of Brady Mallalieu Architects, and currently serves as a CABE enabler, Vice-Chair of Civic Trust Awards, advisor to the British Council, visiting critic for London Metropolitan University, external examiner for the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Ambassador for the Government Equality Office and a STEMnet Ambassador. She is also Chair of the Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland (RIAI) London Forum, a member of the RIAI Council and the RIBA’s Women in Architecture committee.
