Display your NBS product specifications on your website
Head of NBS software development Stephen Hamil explains how easy it is to display your NBS product specifications on your website, and the real benefits of doing so.
NBS Plus positions your product information alongside the relevant NBS clause at the point at which an architect or engineer is writing the specification. All the specifier has to do is click once to add your product to their project.
Around 5,000 practices now subscribe to NBS. It's used by 97 of the top 100 architectural practices in the UK (as identified by The Architects' Journal), proving that it's as much of a must-have among architects as NBS Plus is among product suppliers.
One of the most popular recent additions to NBS Plus is its built-in facility to allow manufacturers and suppliers to display NBS product specifications on their website. The advantages of this include:
- That smaller practices that specify low-budget projects by writing notes on drawings can now easily also add a robust, concise NBS product specification from a supplier's own website
- When a supplier's NBS Plus content is updated (by a qualified member of our in-house NBS technical team), it's also automatically updated on the supplier's website
- Clear visibility of NBS Plus branding, making it easy for visitors to quickly identify 'NBS Plus suppliers' (companies that are clients of NBS Plus) and to feel confident that they are dealing with a trustworthy name.
Internet neophytes may be reassured that it's very easy to add live NBS Plus information to a website. Your webmaster need simply copy and paste a short snippet of HTML code into the relevant page and it will automatically appear (and be updated).
Around one third of all NBS Plus manufacturers now take advantage of this – which is good, but still represents a lost opportunity for the remaining two thirds (it's free, after all). Two examples of how it's been incorporated to great effect in manufacturer websites are provided by Knauf AMF and Wykamol.
Figure 1 shows how Knauf AMF display all of their NBS Plus products on a single page. They've styled the NBS Plus information to match the rest of their website. Users simply click on each product name to see and use the associated NBS Plus product specification.
In figure 2 Wykamol present their NBS Plus content slightly differently. Here they've customised their NBS Plus information in order to position each specification alongside individual product (types).
NBS Plus' key strength has always been that it presents your most pertinent product to the specifier at the most appropriate time in their decision making process using language most relevant to the task in hand. Providing access and up-to-date specifications via your website maximises the opportunity for your products to be selected.
